Karela/Bitter Gourd Recipe


250 gm karela/ bitter gourd


Mustard oil

1/4 tsp methi seeds

3 medium onions


  1. Slice karela and add 1/2 tsp salt to it and mix
  2. Keep it aside for 30 mins
  3. After 30 mins, squeeze out the water from the karela, keep it in a separate plate, wash it twice and again squeeze out the water
  4. Take a kadhai, add mustard oil and methi seeds. Wait for the methi seeds to pop
  5. Now add karela and add 3 medium sized sliced onions at the same time
  6. Now cover it up and cook it on low flame like this for 10 mins or till it can be cut with a spoon
  7. Now remove the cover, add salt and cook on low flame for another 25 mins or till it becomes light golden
