So I finally visit this junkyard themed cafe in the prime location behind Select City Walk.
This place is specifically meant for those groovy weekends where you can come with your mates and relax with more than a glass of alcohol while listening to the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s chartbusters in the genre of Rock n Roll, R&B, metal and rock.
The ambience does remind you of a typical junkyard but wait till you get your cutlery. The other end of the forks, knives and spoons are shaped in the form of a screwdriver. That is one hell of creativity!
Moving on to food, surprisingly the dishes are innovative and flavourful. Usually such places are more famous for drinks than for food but hey, surprise surprise!
Stuffed grilled chicken breast with spinach and oozy mushroom sauce: A super juicy breast of chicken drenched in creamy mushroom and spinach sauce is appetizing enough but when paired with the likes of grilled vegetables and subtlely flavoured potato mash, oh my my! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Chicken kothe dimsums: The very subtle mixture of minced chicken and onion enveloped in a thin dimsums covering which is pan seared at base will leave you in splits but a slight off taste of lemongrass might be a hindrance. RECOMMENDED
Tandoori wasabi prawns: The prawns are fresh and for the first time, I tasted creamy tandoori prawns. I could have never imagined the combination of prawns and wasabi working so well but surprisingly, here it did. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Chicken and mushrooms lasagna: Ahhhh, lasagna after so long. The silky lasagna sheets drenched in a well balanced sauce of tomatoes, black pepper and cheese with finely minced chicken and mushroom chunks added for extra zing. Trust me when I say that this one particularly is addictive. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Pan seared fish with fresh basil cream: Well grilled fish fillets topped with a very unusual but appetite sauce is a foodie’s dream come true. Specially when the foodie in question is a fitness freak and counts calories to the brim. RECOMMENDED
Laidback café by the World of Shalom should be on your list if you want to experience authentic Mediterranean/Lebanese dishes with a comfortable ambience. The menu is extensive, though, covering continental as well as Asian dishes in which the restaurant excels as well. I had an unforgettable experience at this place and here are a few dishes that I tasted:
Non veg mezze platter: First, you dig into the succulent Zata’ar chicken which has a very thin crusty exterior and the lovely taste of tangy Zata’ar spices. Second, you bite the meat fatayar which is a fried fluffy envelope of finely minced lamb – the aroma of Mediterranean spices is extremely inviting. Third, you gorge upon the juicy chicken wings and get your hands dirty in the spicy tangy mixture. Fourth, the fine textured hummus, the creamy babaganoush, the healthy tabbouleh and the sour cacic go well with the meaty dishes. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Shish Touk – If bulky boneless pieces with the characteristic tanginess could be this soft is hard to believe. The well grilled capsicum and tomatoes have imparted their juiciness to the chicken and when the skewers are served with sour salad of perfectly julienned bell peppers, onions, cabbage and tomatoes. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Rubiyan Mishwi: Pan seared prawns in garlic butter sauce is every sea food lover’s dream appetizer. But when those prawns have a creamy melt in the mouth texture with no foul aroma, you can not stop your self at just one. Coupled with a light onion, tomato and bell pepper salad with an occasional bite of chopped garlic, this dish is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Grilled salmon in Buerre blanc sauce: One bite will not be enough, trust me! The salmon is grilled to perfection with chewy interiors and slightly crusty exterior and topped with a white whine and butter based Buerre Blanc sauce which has a creamy texture and moderate consistency. And let us not forget the smoothest potato mash with aptly grilled vegetables drenched in a light tangy dressing with the European herbs and you have a winner of a dish. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Tiramisu: The perfect tiramisu gone slightly haywire because of the excess use of coffee powder on the top which lent a slightly butter flavour to the ensemble. RECOMMENDED.
Blueberry cheesecake: The best cheesecake till date! This was not baked which was an added bonus because the soft chocolate base complimented the utterly mellow cheesecake with embedded blueberries. And the icing on the cake was the blueberry sauce with real mashed blueberries adorning the top. Why did I finish this? HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Authentic cuisine seems to be the rage these days and when coupled with “organic” and “healthy”, the foodies are bound to get something different yet exciting.
Located in the bustling Select Citywalk, this little restaurant is bound to keep you hooked to their amazing menu. All their ingredients are freshly imported and organically produced. No extra flavours, condiments or preservatives in their dishes, only pure culinary skill and technique here.
Another note: They have a policy of serving the leftover food to the beggars and homeless people near Select Citywalk – applause for this initiative!
Summer is back Italian Basil: When “organic” is the word, you expect fresh ingredients in your beverage with no syrups or artificial flavours. Same goes for this one. A refreshing concoction of Italian basil leaves and oranges with no extra zing is as home made as it can get. The bitterness of basil cuts the tanginess of oranges and the subtle sweetness of the ensemble is there to suit everyone. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Fresh Butter Garlic Prawns: This recipe is a local one from the famed Anjuna beach and does not disappoint you. The prawns are sourced from Cochin, so you get the authentic “prawn” flavour and are served with a green salad, butter based dip and French fries. The prawns are smoked to perfection with the shells intact with creamy and juicy insides but with a lesser amount of salt though. The citrus salad is amazing – spinach, lettuce and mustard leaves, yellow and red bell peppers and orange drizzled with light lemon vinaigrette. The crunchy leaves and vegetables coupled with the subtle tanginess of the dressing leave you asking for more.
Pro-tip: You have to eat the prawns with the salad so that the flavours are balanced.
Though I really wished that the “garlic” in this dish was more prominent. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Norwegian smoked salmon and cream: Drool worthy to the core! The smooth fettucine is prepared in home made Tarragon sauce and cream with smoked salmon and topped with grated cheese – mouth watering combination? The salmon is very subtly smoked and is tender and compliments the pasta well. The menu mentions that this should be served with sautéed organic greens but I was served with buttered crunchy garlic bread. RECOMMENDED.
Cremino: Why did I taste this? A variation of our beloved Tiramisu, this is fashioned from Mascarpone cheese, Amaretto soaked in coffee and topped with cacoa dust and coffee flavoured cookies. Surprisingly the coffee is not bitter at all and is pleasant in taste with the cheese being so smooth and creamy that you can not stop once you start binging on this. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Blueberry Cherry Smoothie: Organic blueberries and cherries freshly grinded in fresh chilled yoghurt with no extra sugar or flavours – HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Waffles: Served with Nutella, cream, butter, Maple syrup, musk melon and kiwi slices – a perfect breakfast item. The waffles were not airy and crunchy and had gone soft and chewy probably due to the time spent in clicking the perfect picture but when eaten with Nutella and cream – BOMB! The texture was brittle and crumbly though. RECOMMENDED.
Situated in Kailash Colony, this is a fancy restaurant which serves some lip smacking dishes. Uncultured should be your go to place if you love trying on a myriad of cuisines. A great rooftop terrace is just one of the advantages of visiting this place.
I recently got an opportunity to taste some of its items and here are a few of them:
Fish fingers: Served with a dip, these are crunchy and had a subtle taste. RECOMMENDED
Oreo Shake: Yes we all are head-over-heels in love with this one already. Heavenly is just too small a word to describe this. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Chicken pizza: When I order chicken pizza, I expect chicken to be there as well. But you need a magnifying glass to locate the chicken pieces on the pizza as there are hardly any.
Primavera Pizza: Now atleast this pizza was not disappointing. It had a lot of bell peppers, olives, zucchini and a good amount of cheese as well. RECOMMENDED
Chilli Mushroom: Its time to move on from the regular chilli chicken and chilli paneer and try this dish. As I am not a huge fan of mushrooms, it does taste a little bit weird in the starting. But the spiciness and the tanginess of the mushrooms will definitely delight you. Its spiciness hits you and tanginess makes you fall in love with this dish. RECOMMENDED
Grilled Prawn: Ordering this one was a huge mistake as it is high on disappointment. The prawns were bitter and I could not even finish the one I tasted.
Chicken 65 Bruschetta: After a huge disappointment faced from grilled prawns, this was a beautiful respite. It had oodles of cheese covering the soft juicy chicken placed on toasty bread which leaves you wanting for more. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Grilled Fish in lemon butter sauce: Served with a dip and side vegetables, the fish was mellow and had a sublte taste. Light on your stomach, it certainly leaves you wanting for more. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
