Majnu Ka Tilla, Sushant Lok, Gurgaon

There are very few places specialising in Mughlai cuisine which are able to dish out a decent meal, forget about bringing their innovation to the table. The usual tikkas and kebabs sometimes get boring and creative energy in culinary arts is the rule of the day. Majnu ka Tilla has excelled on both the frontiers.

Without much ado, I would straightaway move forward to the loebly spread that was sent to me a few days back:

Chicken Tangri Kebab: Why in the name of God did I taste this? I have always been drawn towards the salivating Tangri Kebabs and these stuffed ones in thick sticky gravy just set a new bar for my taste buds. The stuffing of finely minced chicken with a juicy exterior of the leg piece drenched in yoghurt based gravy and the occasional green chillies will leave you yearning for more. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Achaari Paneer Tikka: Tangy and spicy – wohoooo! The smoked cottage cheese pieces and the red, yellow and green bell peppers were smoked to perfection in the tangy and peppery batter. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

IMG_20170910_210740-01

Majnu Special Afghani Chicken: The reason these guys call some of their dishes as special is because they use gravy in these appetizers. The tikka was perfectly smoked, succulent and drenched in a lovely gravy of yoghurt, green chillies and coriander flavoured with chaat masala . HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

IMG_20170910_205839-01

Chicken Tikka: Again gravy based with tender boneless chicken pieces spreading the warmth in your mouth as well as stomach. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

IMG_20170910_210235-01

Paneer Lababdar: Vegetarians, you have to binge on this one. Thick and sliky gravy with the occasional bite of cumin seeds and a prominent flavour of the onion tomato mixture goes so well with every Indian bread that you can think of. And the paneer – top notch! They also use a secret ingredient in their preparation which I am of course forbidden to reveal. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Wok Me, Greater Kailash 1, New Delhi

So after a long time, we got to experience South Asian/Oriental dishes a few days back and we were pretty impressed with the delivery service of Wok Me. The order came at 7:50pm, 10 minutes before our designated time. How often does that happen?

Neatly packaged in paper boxes with no spill overs, these were the items that we tasted:

Chicken Lemongrass Sio Mai Dimsums: You know the dimsums are unusual when they are adorned with caramelised garlic on top. The thick, sticky, translucent and soft skin enclosing finely minced chicken with lemongrass surely tastes like heaven. The fresh flavour provided by lemongrass is the USP of this dish. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

IMG_20170914_200453-01

Yum Yum Rolls: True to their names, these vegetarian spring rolls were yummy to the core! The crunchy and flaky exterior and the soft juicy interior consisting of finely julienned cabbage and carrots can inflame your palette. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

IMG_20170914_200246-01

Make your own Wok Box – Flat Rice noodles in spicy coconut curry: The appearance of these noodles would not entice you since the curry had dried up by the time the order reached us, but the flavours will. The noodles are healthy as they are fashioned from rice and have a velvety smooth texture. The aroma and taste of the coconut gravy is tantalising to your taste buds and the addition of carrot juliennes, cottage cheese cubes, baby corn and shiitake mushrooms makes this a complete meal. The topping of peanuts and sesame seeds is so mouth watering! RECOMMENDED.

Recommendations: The noodles were slightly dry. They could have been moister.

Go Gourmet, Sector 21, Gurgaon

A delivery outlet providing fresh gourmet food at your doorstep – do we really need to step out of the comfort of our homes to experience fine cuisine now?
With the rise in health consciousness amongst the city dwellers, Go Gourmet has been a step ahead, delivering gluten free, vegan and super foods as well. Here are two of them that I recently tasted:
Lemon Chicken Sandwich: Firm and thick multi grain breads enclosing chewy yet mellow chicken chunks drenched in light lemony tangy sauce with hints of basil leaves – healthy and delectable.

IMG_20170821_181735-01
Chicken Tikka Cous Cous Salad: The decadence of our staple chicken tikka combined with the goodness of cous cous topped with pickled carrot and bell pepper slices – we do have a winner here. The chicken slices were done well in the tikka masala but not overdone and retained their juiciness even after 2.5 hours.

Being Chef, Sector 14, Gurgaon

So what happens when a few friends who never had any cooking experience, decide to cook a decent meal after celebrating Friday to it umpteenth? Disaster.  And what happens when an idea is born in these mechanical engineers to devise a way to make the life easy for office goers who do not have time to cook? Being Chef.

Being Chef was the first start up in India to come up with ready to eat cooking kits with 5 minute recipes. Their process is well researched, designed and patented.

I recently savoured an opportunity to taste their delicacies and try my hands on their cooking kit:

Penne pasta in white sauce cooking kit: I have laid my hands on such cooking kits before, but this one is extremely lucid and precise – one of the many reasons that it is patented. Every ingredient is measured precisely and packed with single letters written on the top. The recipe card clearly mentions the exact time a step will take for an ingredient to get cooked – the ingredients are mentioned by their corresponding letter names.

IMG_20170718_201308-01

Since they follow a 5 minute recipe procedure, the pasta was boiled, the vegetables blanched and the sauce was already prepared and packed. The quantity served for the price is well worth the money you pay. Totally impressed!

IMG_20170718_202638-01

The pasta turned out to be deliciously drool worthy since I followed the steps to the T. The balance of the flavours, the creaminess of the sauce and the extra cheese gratings on the top made my day. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

IMG_20170718_204411-01

Vegetarian Deluxe Meal: Now that is one platter! You know are having a great dinner when the soft lachha paranthas are gobbled up with a smooth creamy dal makhani, a sweet paneer lababdar, a healthy bowl of mixed vegetables, simple steamed rice, a mellow gulab jamun and a well prepared mint raita.  However the mixed vegetables were quite tangy and the rice was slightly undercooked.  RECOMMENDED.

IMG_20170718_204029-01

Veg Hakka Noodles: I am very stringent when it comes to the simple yet delicious Hakka noodles and these guys passed my test. The noodles strings could have been thinner but were otherwise pretty appetizing. The finely cut jullienes of carrots, cabbage and bell peppers complimented the noodles and the subtle tanginess of vinegar was the icing on the cake. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

The Hidden Hour, Gurugram

In the age of mobile phones and laptops, when people prefer staying indoors rather than venture outside, Hidden Hour comes as a source of relief for the ones who loved playing with their family/friends outside. The Hidden Hour is a “Real-Life Escape Game” where players end up getting locked in a room. The objective is to accomplish the mission in 60 minutes by finding hidden clues, answering riddles and solving puzzles in a room full of mystery.

20170520_124206

I went there to find out what all the buzz was about with 5 of my friends and we all came back with major adrenaline rush. There are two escape games they are providing as of now- Magic Show-A Treasure Hunt and Hijacked NCR Metro Bomb Diffusal. I got to try Magic Show-A Treasure Hunt and it was absolutely amazing. So they have a perfect storyline to make this escape game believable. In this one you have to find a long lost masterpiece by solving all the clues given and plan your escape as well in just 60 minutes. Nothing is virtual in here, all the objects are real. They locked all of us in a room and there were so many clues, hidden puzzles in that room which you had to piece together. The game certainly requires out-of-the-box thinking and make the rusted clogs of your brain work. The game is thrilling, exhilarating and mind boggling at the same time. The timer compels you to solve things fast. This is precisely what action movies or those finding-hidden-objects-in-a-room games are made up of. Every team mate plays an important role and this game would be good for corporate team building exercises. The 60 minutes fly by and you are left wanting for more.

If you are an adrenaline junkie, this is a perfect place for you. Magic Show-A Treasure Hunt did cast a spell on all of us.

Bueno Café, MGF Metropolis, Gurgaon

This was not the first time I explored the varied dishes from the Bueno Café. Being an employee resident of Gurgaon, I have ordered quite a few times from this wonder of an outlet and have never been disappointed. So when the opportunity came to visit their outlet in MGF Metropolis, I could not keep my gluttony cravings in control!

Puneet Jain, Corporate chef of Bueno and the co-founder has curated the menu here and I am pretty impressed by them. All the breads, compote, shakes and even pita chips are made in house with no added flavouring agents and preservatives. The chef believes in keeping his dishes subtle and wants the customers to savour every ingredient in the item – hence you are assured that you taste the best of the lot.

Peri peri chicken sandwich: Fresh multi grain soft Panini breads sandwiching chewy and mellow chicken along with the firm cheddar and topped with peri peri spices and some gherkins for tanginess – explosion of flavours! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

IMG_5711-01

Chicken Ham and cheese sandwich: Lovely Brioche breads enclosing firm cheddar and chewy chicken ham with the addition of fresh mustard sauce – what more can you ask for? The Brioche breads are heavenly soft because of the presence of butter. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

IMG_5714-01

Belgian Chocolate Shakes: Ahhhh, such denseness and the bitterness of real Belgian chocolates! Add to it, the freshly prepared compte and you are in for a creamy and slurpy goodness. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

IMG_5723-01

Blueberry shake: I really admire those chefs who use the natural sweetness of fruits to prepare shakes and desserts. This shake was fresh, as expected with no extra sugar and made with in house compote. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

IMG_5732-01

Baked blueberry cheesecake: Prepared wkith natural blueberry compote (blueberry pulp used), diet conscious dessert lovers will adore this. It has three layers – top blueberry pulp resembling jelly, middle layer of soft and subtle cheesecake and the base layer of pulverised biscuits. The combined effect of all the three layers in indescribable. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

IMG_5736-01

Smoked veggies Italian Ciabatta: Ciabatta is actually a French bread which has a crispy exterior. The sandwich was one of a kind enclosing smoked vegetables – zucchinis and bell peppers, cheddar and a thin pesto layer. The high point of this sandwich was the maintenance of the juiciness of the vegetables in addition to the pesto layer which was not too overpowering. Though the sandwich was a bit dry and hence difficult to eat from the edges.

IMG_5744-01

Gooey chocolate brownie: The heart melting warmth and remarkable fluffiness of this soft and gooey brownie will leave you asking for more. The best port is that only unsalted butter is used here with no signs of grease. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

IMG_5740-01

Orange and cranberry cake: I thought that Chaayos was one outlet preparing their cakes with fresh fruits and retaining their natural flavours. But Bueno proves me wrong. The characteristic sweet tangy flavours of orange and cranberries is well defined here. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Karate Kitchen, Sultanpur, New Delhi

I would not prefer wasting your time on introducing Karate kitchen because they have already carved a niche for themselves in the market when it comes to delivering Asian and Oriental dishes. Each creation by their super talented chef is a lovely accompaniment to your lunch or dinner.

A note about their super soft dumplings – they are made from potato and wheat starch with no addition of flour.

Fiery chicken dumplings: The soft-skinned dumplings with the freshest minced chicken. The dumplings were not fiery at all but were slightly sweet due to a thin syrup.

IMG_20170304_132615

Vegetarian crystal dumpling: They were able to induce a level of taste in the usual veg dumplings. The use of finely chopped bakchoy leaves, mushroom and water chestnut enclosed in a super soft skin.

IMG_20170304_132736

Lotus root stems: Finely sliced lotus roots fried to crispy perfection.

IMG_20170304_132802

Prawn dumplings: Again super soft skin enclosing the subtle prawn heads with a slightly tangy flavour. The skin is fashioned with sesame oil and finely diced water chestnut in addition to the starches I mentioned before.

IMG_20170304_133204

Mushroom with green chilli and garlic: If you love mushrooms, this is a dish you will adore more than any other mushroom item you have ever tasted. The juiciness of button mushrooms, the chewiness of shiitake and the slurpiness of the oyster ones lightly tossed in fine juliennes of garlic and green chillies is a healthy as well as a heavenly dish.

IMG_20170304_133423

Basil Thai vegetables: Blanched vegetables – broccoli, bell peppers and zucchini in a light hot and sweet sauce with the pungency of chopped garlic.

IMG_20170304_134043

Water chestnut: It was served cold but was edible and was full of flavours. The slices of fresh watery chestnut with flat beans immersed in sweet coconut milk based gravy and topped with caramelised onions – expect an explosion of flavours.

IMG_20170304_134327

Noodles: The finest noodles and worth your time and taste.

IMG_20170304_140437

Thai green curry with sticky rice: Somehow, their Thai green curry was very sweet and would be difficult to eat if you have a neutral or spicy palate. However, the gravy had the right consistency and the rice were good.

IMG_20170304_140905

Brookie: Ah, here is a dessert which is pretty class apart. The combination of half brownie and half cookie adorned with chocolate chips is such a novel dish! The melted cookie on the brownie present a gooey, dense and soft sweet course.
