The bamboo curtains of our childhood are a thing of past now. I feel they were better compared to the polyester curtains that we are using these days – synthetic fibre which are not able to shield us well from the heat wave.Nostalgia hit us at Mehrangarh Fort where these bamboo curtains protect the fort…

How many of you remember these straw curtains from the 90’s? They are still been used in the traditional home sets and are pretty sustainable. As a kid, we used to flip them around from time to time and then get scolded by the elders.

Hidden feelings lying in some corner,

residual emotions tucked in another,

desires still left unhindered,

untouched they are, left to wither away.

Wither? I wish they were dead,

devolving in the abyss moment by moment,

I shun them to fade away in the dark,

but they yearn to burst with the familiar.

So many corners in my heart,

all connected, all decaying,

so many things left unsaid,

left to pile up and rot,

real laughter, real happiness no more exists,

just seconds of ecstasy; temporary they are,

fake smile plastered on my face,

nothing good to look forward to,

nothing to love,

nothing to feel happy for,

it is all dark,

it is all dead.

No, no, the world is not dead,

no, no, it is not lost,

I try convincing myself every day,

but my world is indeed lost in oblivion.

Last summer, I finally got to open the seductive looking bottle of La Rioja, a Spanish wine that I brought from Düsseldorf airport duty free. I had expected La Rioja to be a sweet tasting wine but it was weirdly not sweet although I wouldn’t call it bitter. I paired it with cheese, pasta and all sorts of items but I couldn’t come to like it.

One fine Friday evening, I was watching Iron Man 2 while enjoying my pasta with pimento stuffed olives and a glass of La Rioja. Just when Iron man discovers the new element that will fuel his arc reactor, I discovered that those pimento stuffed olives went so well with the tannins of La Rioja wine.
