Lamb with ginger spring onion chilli – Fashioned in chips with julliened vegetables – carrots and bell peppers, these were way too chewy.
Fiery chicken dimsums – Thin translucent skin enclosing finely minced chicken with the lovely flavours of garlic and chilli, these were BOMB.
Chilli Basil chicken dimsums – Mellow and adorned with caramelized garlic – a perfect amalgamation of sweet and spicy flavours.
Chicken Hot n Sour Soup – Thin consistency with loads of vegetables – carrots, shiitake mushrooms, cabbage with shredded chicken – good but could have been better.
Lemon coriander soup – It was subtle and good in taste but the ingredients didn’t justify the name. A plethora of vegetables – broccoli, lemongrass and mushrooms drenched in a tangy thin soup. Coriander was missing here.
Noodles – Plain, slurpy, moist and excellent.
Sichuan lamb curry – Thin consistency and way too oily, but goes well with the noodles.
Thai basil chicken cups – Minced chicken mixture with the loveliness of chopped garlic and onions adorned with red chilli and filled in wanton sheets and crispy fried to perfection – boy, I was in a dream while eating them.
Thai Red curry with rice – Perfection at it’s best – the right quantity of coconut milk, lemongrass and curry leaves in which the boneless chicken pieces are drenched to the core.
Chocolate peanut butter wantons – Crunchy exterior with warm gooey choco – peanut butter mixture is surely a heavenly dessert.
So finally there is a café in Gurgaon which is located in the premium location of Golf Course Road and which is not a water hole unlike the proliferating restaurants here.
Forestta deserves a special mention for being a place where you can sit quietly with your friends and family, enjoy their collection of best selling books, play snooker or relish Karoake on Thursday nights. It is a no go place for alcohol lovers and kid friendly too.
Wooden interiors and vibrant ambience with a touch of greenery welcome you as you sail aboard this place. The menu is varied and is optimally priced. Here are a few items that I recently binged upon:
Mango Smoothie: Made from real alphonso mangoes with no added flavours, this one is a must try for smoothie lovers.
Veg kebab platter: A well grilled paneer tikka, crispy tandoori broccoli drenched in spices, juicy mushrooms and mellow poatatoes filled with a peppery filling – vegetarians, you have a profound reason to visit this place.
Non veg platter: Fish Tikka which does not disintegrate easily and is soft to the core, mouth gasmic chicken tikka which is extra mellow, firm yet juicy mutton seekh kebab and spicy and tangy tandoori chicken – it is difficult to stop yourselves if you are a hardcore non vegetarian.
Afghani Tandoori momos: As of the usual Tandoori momos were not enough! With a chewy exterior and mushy interiors slathered in a sticky creamy sauce, you are bound to get surprise.
Vegetarian spring rolls: A defined crunch sounds awakens your senses as you bite into this blissful piece of sheer culinary magic.
A lot of hype was generated around this restaurant when it had opened and it is rightly so as QRO serves the most delectable shakes and pastas! Pocket friendly for the students, the restaurant serves Continental food in addition to the usual Chinese and Italian.
So here are the dishes that I tried-
Baked Penne Mozarella- For all the cheese and pasta lovers out there, this is a perfect dish for you all. The goodness of penne combined with oodles of cheese is sure to win your heart. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Steamed Wheat Dimsums(chicken)- Well I am a huge dimsums fan and a restaurant serving the wheat ones is just heaven for me. These dimsums do have some amount of refined flour in them so as to stop the dough from getting blacked. The dimsums have a dense chicken filling and you don’t need any dip to go with it. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Choco Brownie Shake- I have finally found my favourite shake in the town ! Choco Brownie Shakes are served everywhere but QRO sure knows how to make them the best. It is thick(as shakes should be!) and have a right amount of sweetness.It surprises you, delights you and casts a spell on you. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Fish and Chips- I love this British street food but have never seen it served in a café. The fish had a subtle taste and a flaky texture.The dip was delectable and was the highpoint of the whole dish. RECOMMENDED.
BBQ Chicken Wrap- Try all the dishes here but never try their wraps as they don’t make them good. The BBQ chicken was sweet in taste and there wasn’t much sauce in the wrap which proved extremely difficult to eat it.
Food, food and sometimes too much of it. Don’t we all get bored of the same chicken tikka or daal makhani? It is cooked at our homes by us and our parents and served at all the north Indian restaurants and weddings. Sometimes, I wonder the sheer monotony of the same dishes.
To break this drudgery, The Grill Kitchen has come up with a novel taste to the same old dishes. A slight twist in the recipes and boom, you have a different conept. Not like serving the old wine in a new bottle and not overhauling the traditional recipes.
The food explorer in me was delighted to savour their lovely preparations:
Prawn dimsum: Who says that dishes fashioned out of smelly prawns need to have a strong whiff of sea? Subduing that unwanted aroma is where the skill of the chef is tested and if he/she is able to achieve this, then hats off! These prawn dimsums tasted like prawns but did not smell too much like them. The thin skin enclosing excellently flavoured minced prawn is a paradisiacal dish for prawn and dimsum lovers. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Bhatti chicken: It was way too tangy and dry. There was rum added in it but that should have made it a bit bitter not tangy.
Galouti kebab: Mellow and melt in the mouth made with the finest mutton mince – HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Kadhai chicken: The dhaba style chicken served here is pure love. The medley of juicy chicken pieces drenched in a thick gravy of green bell peppers, tomatoes, onions and cumin seeds is sure to entice you. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Daal makhani: Decadency at its best! A hard core non vegetarian like me does not drool over daal makhani but this one forced me to. The daal served here was so flavourful, hot, creamy and spicy with every aspect in balance. Once I started having this with their chewy maida naan, I could not control myself. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Roasted chicken in herbs: This one should be on your priority tasting list if you love the sort of chicken in which the juicy flesh falls off the bones. This one was a s succulent as a chicken can get and was roasted in tangy Zaatar herbs and Indian spices. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Family based restaurants serving lip smacking north Indian dishes are difficult to find these days. And this is where Chawla’s Tandoori Junction comes into play.
A twenty years old restaurant which started at Karkardooma and has now spread to Noida and Defence Colony, Chawla’s should be on your go to list for those delicious family outings and here are the reasons why:
Paneer Tikka: Tanginess and an unusual smokiness define this common vegetarian appetizer.
Kastoori chicken: Firm and chewy boneless chicken pieces drenched in subtle spices and smoked to perfection, with a lovely balance of flavours – I could not keep my hands off from this one.
Dahi ke sholey: A vegetarian dish which is cathcinh up with all of us. The one served here is flaky and crispy from outside with not too many layers and soft and sweet from inside – the reduced yoghurt is ohh-so-smooth!
Kalmi Kebab: Any kebab slathered with cream or yoghurt is always enticing for me! This one was heavenly soft, so damn succulent that the chicken falls out of the legpiece, creamy and had fresh coriander leaves to provide a different level of decadency.
Chicken Tandoori momos: A balanced chewiness coupled with the a slight peppery flavour awaits your palate when you savour this.
Handi chicken: Rich and creamy gravy with the aroma of green cardomam and the tender chicken pieces and an unusual spice level – recommended.
I am loving the way the delivery outlets are proliferating in the Delhi NCR region. Specially when they are experimenting in authentic exotic cuisines. Thai, Asian and Japanese seem to be pretty much in and Hong Kong Express is yet another outlet in the south Delhi circle opening its door to the uber sauve customer.
As claimed by many other outlets, Hong Kong express also belives in fresh preparations but what baffles me the most is their exorbitant quantities. I mean 10 momos in just 180 bucks from a quality outlet? Noi kidding guys, no kidding.
Chicken momos: A soft translucent skin of refined flour enclosing a delicate mixture of minced chicken and chopped onions, green chillies and coriander is sure to entice you. Add to this, the lightness of the momos and you can eat a whole box of them! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Chicken Sui Mai Dimsums: Oh boy! Why did I taste these? Because I could not stop myself from devouring the entire plate! Thin wanton sheets enveloping a mellow minced chicken mixture with the addition of chopped spring onions from three sides and steamed to perfection will definitely haunt you. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Chicken Thai green curry: I am pretty sure that Thai green curry does not appear orange in colour. Nonetheless, it was quite sweet because of overuse of coconut milk and could have used some Thai spices. The refreshing flavour and aroma of lemongrass in combination with the fried curry leaves lends an unmatched authenticity to this dish. RECOMMENDED.
Situated at a food court at Infospace, Sohna road, this is your average Chinese outlet serving some new lip smacking dishes. I recently got an opportunity to taste some of its items and here are a few of them:
Noodles: Average. The noodles were not fine and the quantity of cabbage juliennes was equivalent to noodles.
Veg Manchurian: Soft balls drenched in a thick gravy but the whole ensemble was too salty for me.
Veg masala momos: This one is worth writing about. It is definitely a novel concept wherein the thick skinned momos (they have to be thick otherwise they will get demolished by the thick gravy) are drenched in a spicy mixture of chopped onions and garlic. You do not need a separate dip for that – it is a complete dish in itself.
