Lately, my fascination for South-East Asian cuisine has grown fourfold. The magic of dimsums, noodles, poke bowls and so on has worked its way into my heart and who am I resist when the lovely cuisine from Vietnam comes calling.
Pho Vegetables: Lovely rice noodles drenched in a hot, sweet and sour soup with the goodness of crunchy vegetables- carrots, broccoli, bok choy, mint and spinach leaves, the mellow tofu and chewy portobello & shiitake mushrooms. The bowl is served with hot and spicy Sriracha sauce, caramelised garlic & onions, and peanuts.
Pork & King Oyster Mushroom Spring Rolls: The very fine texture of the hot hot mince of pork and mushrooms is overwhelming. And with such a hot spicy mixture, it is difficult to roll into crispy spring rolls. Served with a melt in the mouth spicy peanut sauce, this ensemble is one item not to miss.
White Rose Dimsums: These are tender crystal dimsums enclosing a very delicate mixture of tapioca and mung beans which actually melts in your mouth. The sauce is sweet and spicy although the spicier part is pronounced because of finely chopped red chillies.
Viet-Nom special pizza: Slightly disappointing because the rice paper had a burnt texture and excessive use of basil leaves. But the succulent chicken chorizo and egg cheese combo saves the dish.
Avocado surprise: Surprising yet pleasant! The finely mashed avocado is drenched in coconut ice – cream and topped with maple syrup and coconut shavings. The resultant is a cool and creamy subtle dessert.
Looks like M block Greater Kailash market is upping it’s game when it comes to giving authentic Italian cuisine experiences.
Baked Pizza is a newly opened cafe with soothing interiors and an open kitchen with a wood fired oven to boost.
Pesto chicken Caesar salad: Ohhh the lightness of this salad casts a spell on me! The crunchy rocket & lettuce leaves, the firm chicken in the pesto sauce and the not so creamy flavour make this salad highly recommended.
Baked Cannolini: Spinach cannolini does not taste like one. The bitterness of spinach is absent and it’s mince goes well in the pasta sheets. The perfectly balanced mixture of red and white sauce and the melt in the mouth texture of this sauce will definitely leave you in splits. Highly recommended.
Cheese me baby: One of the best margharitas that I have ever tasted! The creamy amalgamation of four different types of cheese: bocconcini, English cheddar, mozzarella and parmesan compliments the occasional bitter bite of fresh basil leaves. Highly recommended.
Vinny’s list pizza: Every possible product of chicken which can be imagined is here. The chicken chorizo, sausage and keema, along with mushroom and caramelized onions is heavenly! Recommended.
Classic garlic bread sticks: Freshly baked with mozzarella cheese and enclosing tangy jalapenos and juicy sweet corn and served with garlic aoli – need we ask for more? Highly recommended.
So this particular area around Western Marg in Saket has been bustling with cozy cafes that are gradually capturing the attention of students and office going workforce alike. Case in point being the very famous Rise Cafe.
You’ll be reminded of the interior me of Elma’s at HKV when you visit Soho. Old world charm with snug ambience greets you and the delicious Italian menu beckons you to order more and more.
French Fries: Crispy exterior and perfectly salted – can we ask for more?
Belgian chocolate shake: Ohhh my! The smooth and thick texture with the rich flavour of chocolate and moderate sweetness will leave you in splits.
Half and half vegetarian pizza: The one half had buffalo cheese, capers, black olives and sun-dried tomatoes and was amazing in taste. The other half had red, yellow and green bell peppers, zucchini and buffalo cheese but was over grilled.
Half and half non vegetarian pizza: The one half had ham & mushrooms – the lovely juiciness of mushroom complimenting the succulence of ham. The other had grilled chicken which was chewy and dry.
Their pizzas are thin crusted and I love the use of buffalo cheese but they need to have more flavourful toppings while keeping the authenticity alive.
Shakes and smoothies are excellent and worth spending upon.
BnB signature salad: Talk about the taste and talk about the presentation – everything was spot on. Specially the usage of wooden cutlery – so earthy, so rustic. The salad is subtle with the goodness of skinned oranges, fresh rockets leaves, crunchy roasted almonds, soft Buffalo cheese and pomegranate seeds.
Grilled vegetables pizza: Thin crust rules the roost these days and when slathered with a good quality warm mozarella cheese, leaves no stone unturned to astonish you. The juicy cherry tomatoes, sliced yellow and green zucchini, chewy mushrooms and tangy black olives contribute towards the loveliness of this masterpiece.
3 mushroom risotto: Subtle cheesiness, juicy and chewy shiitake, button and porcini mushrooms define this dish. Overall good taste but could have been more flavourful.
BnB Signature pasta: A version of the usual spaghetti carbonara. The way the cheese blends with the Al Dante spaghetti is phenomenal and when combined with firm not chewy bacon, this will blow your mind.
Orange garlic grilled fish: Top marks to the presentation. And equally top marks to the flavour and texture. The lightly crusted fish is so mellow plus the welcoming tang of orange with chopped garlic is so refreshing. The juicy grilled vegetables – yellow and green zucchini and mushrooms are well doused in the Italian herbs mixture.
Baked Jalapeno and Tobasco Chicken Wings: Never knew that the baked wings could be soft with the flesh coming off the bones so easily! But it seemed that the wings are dipped in tangy spices rather than getting imbibed in them. The texture is good, the flavour is average considering the presence of Tobasco sauce.
Chicken Lollies with beer dip: Again the texture if wonderful – soft insides and slightly chewy & crispy exterior. But again the flavour – the dips served were far too less in the quantity.
Italian Pizza: Thin crust with the optimum amount of cheese which is also of good quality is difficult to find these days. Add to it the lovely combination of tangy jalapenos and firm pepperoni which compliment each other so well – you will have a hard time letting go of the last bite. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Tomato, corn and roasted vegetables in spinach Lasagna sheets: The story about good quality cheese did not end with pizza, it had a second part in the mouth gasmic lasagne as well. The grilled French beans, bell peppers, sweet corn and tomatoes neatly enveloped in thin lasagne sheets and cheese on a bed of a rich red sauce is surely breath taking. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Sookha Mutton with Appam: Those who have tasted or are even aware of how Appams are will be highly disappointed with this dish. Appams are bowl shaped with minimal thickness whereas these resembled pancakes. The mutton was cooked well and had a lovely tenderness to it, but the presence of so many spices will overwhelm you.
Grilled sole with butter roast garlic and spicy vegetables: My favourite ensemble of all the time – grilled steak with mashed potatoes and vegetables in a heavenly sauce was perfectly replicated here. The sole has a light crustiness to it and the vegetables are juicy to the core. But the lemon butter garlic sauce is seductive! The presence of chopped garlic is so scintillating! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Home made Paan ice cream: Perfect ending to a perfect day. The ice cream has the right consistency and you actually feel like you are relishing Paan. The presence of organic Gulkand ups the game. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Delivery: On time
Packaging: Sealed and hygienic
Big Jaws special pizza: Thin crust at it’s best! Even though the menu mentions “spicy chicken” and “hot marinara sauce” , the hotness and spiciness do not overpower. The fresh vegetables – olives, jalapenos, mushrooms, chunky chicken and fried basil leaves on a thin well baked base present a perfect pizza. Highly recommended.
Spaghetti-alla-carbonara – The spaghetti did not get stuck in the white sauce and that is where this dish gets full marks. The white sauce has the right quantity of cheese and cream and therefore the texture is neither too runny nor too sticky. The bacon is well sauteed though I wish it could have been slightly crispier. The pasta is slurpy to the point of being decadent and hence this dish is highly recommended.
Delivery: An hour late
Spaghetti in meatballs: Average taste with the marinara sauce overpowering. The spaghetti strands are not slurpy at all and these occassional bite of chopped garlic is the only respite.
Hogwarts Hut 10″: This is a wonderfully prepared vegetables thin crust pizza which you will enjoy with deep relish. The amount of cheese is optimal, the vegetables perfectly grilled and the crust of perfect texture.
Trio cheese garlic bread: The texture of the breads was crumbly instead of smooth and the cheese tasted stale.
