Belonging to the Awadh region has its downsides – you crave biryani now and then. And it is difficult to get a good Awadhi dish delivered to your doorstep nowadays. But my recent experience with Mukhtalif proved this otherwise.

Going through their extensive menu, I decided to order the following dishes:

Shahi Mutton- I am amazed by this dish. Because the kind of spices used in the gravy are hard to guess. They have certainly used onions and red chillies a lot in addition to a tangy vegetable as the gravy has a bit of tangy flavour. The mutton pieces were succulent and good to eat.

Ulte Tawa ka parantha- A strong aroma of screwpine essence(kewra) and milk greets you when you open these. Lovely sweet flavour and the paranthas are soft and chewy and go well with mutton dish.

Mughlai Chicken Biryani- When you eat it for the first time, you will find it excellent but as you proceed, you will be a bit disappointed. Overuse of coarse spices – cinnamon, mace, green cardomam, black cardomam and cloves makes the whole experience a bit sad. The spices are overpowering the chicken and rice and you can hardly get saffron. The chicken pieces were bland and could have been marinated well. Improvement needed.

Keemami Sevaiyyan- Highly recommended! The vermicelli is so fine that it will amaze you and is coated in screwpine essence(kewra). The addition of khoya and dry fruits make this dessert even more delicious. It is mediumly sweetened and highly aromatic.
