Nawab Dera, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi

Nawab Dera is the new takeaway joint in Delhi which is specialising in Mughlai cuisine and promises on the hygiene factor as well as the taste. I recently tasted some of its items and I am sure it has a long way to go in the Mughlai cuisine sector.

Here are my comments on the items I tried:

Murg Banjara Tikka : The chicken pieces were soft and melt in the mouth and good to eat but the herbs had not penetrated to the insides. The layer of herbs was getting peeled off. The preparation of the herbs was good though.

Chicken Tikka Masala : Chicken pieces drenched in a rich chicken Tikka Masala gravy. The chicken pieces were chewy and the herbs had not penetrated to the insides. The gravy was way too good and thick – chopped onions and tomatoes sauteed well to produce a tangy and spicy gravy. This dish went well with naan.

Dal Makhani : These guys should teach how to make dal Makhani. The pulses were cooked well and the cream had blended well with the spices. The dal had a thick and smooth texture. There was a prominent flavour of Kasturi Methi. Highly recommended.

Mutton seekh kebab : The minced mutton had a fine texture and the kebabs were chewy. But the quantity of green cardomam and cloves was too much much here. Some balance required but otherwise good to eat.

Naan : Soft and chewy with not too much of butter on it. Went well with all the dishes.
