Located on the ground floor of the Epicuria mall, the Flying Saucer cafe is a huge resto-bar. It can easily seat around 100 folks and the seating area is quite comfortable here with cushiony seats. The décor is done up in magenta velvet and is a treat to the eyes.
The service is however pretty average. The servers are courteous but when it gets crowded, it is difficult for them to keep the track.
Here are the items I tried :
Beer battered jalapeno poppers: These small crispy balls were full of gooey cheese. The tanginess of the jalapenos and the cheesiness of the cheese made it a drool worthy dish.
Beer battered chicken poppers : Just break these and the cheese comes out along with the chicken bits. The insides were ohh so soft and chewy.
The poppers were served with a sauce which had rosemary and cheese in it.
Fish cakes : These were average and the fishy smell was lingering in them which was a downer. The cakes were grilled well but tasted bland. The mango sauce served was good though.
Chicken gujiyas : A very different take on our desi gujiyas – honey flavoured small chicken pieces filled into crispy gujiyas. The chicken was well cooked and the gujiyas were not too oily. A must try.
Phujet fish : Poor preparation. Weird texture of the fish served on a banana leaf drenched in honey chilli garlic sauce, alongwith chipped bell peppers and onions. The fish tasted raw. Not recommended.
Spinach and Ricotta Raviolis : Boy, these tasted heavenly! Chopped spinach filled into delicate soft raviolis and these were drenched in hot melted ricotta cheese alongwith tomato sauce. Every bite had a burst of flavours. Highly recommended.
Mutton Lasagna : A good dish. Layers of lasagna sheets enclosing cheese and minced mutton topped with red sauce. It was not too cheesy which made it light on the stomach. A subtle dish with none of the flavours overpowering.
Chicken Dimsums : Wow is the word. The skin was thin and translucent and the minced chicken was fine and steamed well.
Vegetarian Dimsums : Loved these babies! They tasted fresh and had a subtle flavour of the chopped vegetables inside them. The skin was translucent and thin.
Ginger Ale : I drank three glasses of this awesome mocktail. The lovely flavours of mint and ginger were so refreshing in this oppressive summer heat.
Pepperoni pizza : Not good. The hot melted cheese was the saviour otherwise the caramelised onions, the pepperoni and the stone thick pizza base were too bad to be eaten.
