The Kathi’S, Dlf Phase 4, Gurgaon

The mushrooming of Mughlai speciality restaurants has not resulted in joints serving kathi rolls and that is indeed a downer. Barring the legendary Nizam’s and Khan Chacha and a few small scale joints like Chowringhee Lane, there are very few restaurants catering to kathi rolls. You will get them on streets from the local hawkers but still…

Well I am pretty happy that finally a roll based joint is here in Gurgaon. The Kathi’s have regional specific rolls – Kashmiri and Kolkata ones. We have usually tried the rolls made in the Awadh region and have loved it, so why not try some other regional delicacies?

Kashmiri mutton kathi roll : As drooling as it gets! The mutton pieces are super succulent, soft and chewy and so yummy to eat. The tanginess of lightly fried onions and mint chutney is there and egg roll is chewy and heavy. You would love to have them again. Recommended.

Kolkata chicken kathi roll : Average. The roll was crispy but the chicken pieces were chewy, hard and dry. There was a prominent flavour of black pepper there. The presence of dips was also low here thereby keeping the chicken dry. Improvement needed.

Afghani malai tikka : Heavenly! There are very few places which serve good afghani malai tikka. The cream based sauce should be thick and stick to the chicken pieces and that was how it was here. The chicken pieces were soft and succulent and drenched in this malai based sauce. The presence of finely chopped fresh coriander added a very different flavour to this masterpiece of a dish. Highly recommended.

Chicken roomali roll : Different from their kathi rolls but nonetheless tasty! The fineness of the roomali roti is commendable and the lovey juicy chicken pieces in a spicy tangy sauce is paradisiacal. Recommended.
